A Pure Heart

Jesus said, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” This is one of the beatitudes Jesus gave as a part of His Sermon on the Mount recorded in Matthew 5.

When Jesus spoke about the heart, what did He mean? In the Bible the heart speaks of feelings, emotions, desires, and passions. But most frequently heart refers to the reasoning, the thinking, and the will of man.

The heart represents the innermost part of man. It is the center of the inner life. You could say that the heart is the Mission Control Center of man.

And that is the problem because on its own, the heart of man is not pure. The Bible teaches that the heart is wicked, evil, sinful, and deceitful. So how do you get a pure heart?

A pure heart is a clean heart. And only the Lord Jesus can cleanse a sinful heart.
