Reasons to Rejoice

Jesus tells His followers that when we are persecuted we should, “Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” Rejoice when you are persecuted? How can that be?

One reason to rejoice when you are persecuted for Christ’s sake is because it confirms that you are a real Christian. We can be happy that the world sees us as belonging to Christ.

Another reason to rejoice is because the persecution confirms that we are on our way to heaven. Jesus said that ours is the kingdom of heaven. The important thing is not that we are persecuted on earth but that we are going to heaven.

And in heaven we will be rewarded by our Savior. In fact we’re told that our reward in heaven will be great. It’s not what we’re losing here that matters but what we are gaining there. Amen.
